As a psychotherapist, it is important to me to offer a safe space where clients feel comfortable and where they are treated individually. I work with cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness and empathy in order to take into account the individual cognitive and emotional needs of each patient and to build a trusting relationship. After completing my degree, I initially worked as a therapist with physically and mentally disabled children and young people in a special needs day care center. I discovered my interest in psychology during my training as an MTRA and began my bachelor’s degree in psychology at RWTH Aachen University. During my studies, I was employed as a working student in personnel development at OSTHUS GmbH and was able to gain insights into management recruiting at ifp in Cologne. As part of my postgraduate training at the University Hospital RWTH Aachen, I also worked on the ward for depression and private patients as well as in the day clinic and am currently working in an outpatient teaching practice. I also provided psychological counseling to rehabilitants in the psychological service of the Vialife orthopedic rehabilitation clinic. <\/pee><\/div>\n

Our brain has the amazing ability to think itself into situations that we are not actually in. Our thoughts are often in the future or the past. We may imagine what could happen the day after tomorrow, or ponder what could have gone differently in our past. This is not always positive and constructive. It can happen that we lose sight of the present and our life passes us by, so to speak, without us being aware of it. Studies and professional development<\/h4>\n

After studying psychology at the University of Heidelberg and completing my doctorate at a Max Planck Institute in Munich, I moved abroad for a few years, where I worked on a research project in the field of cognitive neuroscience at the University of Wales (UK). Then I came to Aachen and discovered this beautiful corner of Germany. I was a lecturer at the RWTH for 15 years, teaching seminars and lectures on topics such as “Motivation and Emotion”, “Perception and Attention”, “Memory”, and more. During this time, I also led a research project on the experimental investigation of attention processes in multitasking ( link<\/a> ) and after my habilitation I temporarily took on a professorship. <\/pee><\/p>\n

Further training in counseling and therapy<\/h4>\n

After more than 20 years in science, I decided to do something completely different. I completed further training as a systemic counselor at the RGST (Rheinische Gesellschaft f\u00fcr Systemische Therapie) in Viersen and then began training as a psychological psychotherapist at the DGVT (Deutsche Gesellschaft f\u00fcr Verhaltenstherapie) in Bonn. The counseling and therapeutic work with people gives me a lot of pleasure and complements my previous scientific view of the human psyche with many other perspectives. <\/pee><\/div>\n

In my counseling and coaching sessions as a psychologist and systemic individual, couple and family therapist, I place particular emphasis on creating a non-judgmental and safe space in which thoughts and feelings can find their place. My approach is resource- and solution-oriented – it is not only about the symptoms, but also about understanding their causes and conditions that influence and reinforce them and thus maintain the thoughts and behaviors. I then trained as a systemic counselor, individual, couple and family therapist (DGSF Institute vft Munich and STIP Munich). I am also a learning coach certified by the L\u00fcbeck Chamber of Industry and Commerce. <\/pee><\/p>\n

I currently work as a psychologist on the acute ward at the LVR clinic in D\u00fcsseldorf and am self-employed as a psychological counselor and lecturer at “Reha und Beruf D\u00fcren”.<\/pee><\/div>\n

1st study<\/h4>\n

Studied Psychology Bachelor and Master of Science at the Julius-Maximilians University of W\u00fcrzburg. During this time, I worked as a research assistant for various research projects, mainly as a diagnostician. In particular, I was involved in a therapy study on the treatment of panic disorders in a project funded by the BMBF. I also worked as a student trainee at W\u00fcrth-Industrie-Service in the HR department (acquisition and personnel development). <\/p>\n

As a Rhinelander, however, I was subsequently drawn back to my home country, so I completed my postgraduate training as a psychological psychotherapist in the behavioral therapy guideline procedure in Cologne at the Academy for Behavioral Therapy (AVT). In addition to the latest scientifically based knowledge of behavioral therapy, I acquired additional qualifications for conducting group psychotherapy and suggestive methods. <\/pee>At the same time, I worked freelance in the field of potential analysis at schools (Talentebr\u00fccke).<\/pee><\/p>\n

3. professional developments<\/h4>\n

I also worked in personnel development at W\u00fcrth Industrie Service, where I was an external trainer for training courses in the areas of stress prevention and recognizing and promoting potential.<\/pee>I also worked at the D\u00f6pfer University of Applied Sciences as an organizational course director for the B.Sc. in Applied Psychology and as a lecturer, advising students on psychosocial issues. My teaching activities included seminars in the areas of self-awareness, diagnostics and diagnostic interviews. <\/pee>I have had my own private practice since February 2018.<\/pee>I also worked as a lecturer for behavioral therapy at the KBAV (Cologne Bonn Institute for Behavioral Therapy).<\/pee>Psychosocial counseling for students also continued to take place in my practice.<\/pee>I am currently a lecturer at the University of W\u00fcrzburg at the Chair of Differential and Personality Psychology and Psychological Diagnostics.<\/pee><\/div>\n
