Psychological reports
Psychological reports
If obesity surgery is planned, your health insurance company will only cover the costs of the operation if certain conditions are met. Among other things, a psychological assessment must be available (see S 3 Obesity guidelines)
After making an appointment, you will receive a detailed questionnaire and a link to further questionnaire diagnostics. The results will then be discussed during the examination appointment.
Information is also provided on aftercare following the operation.
If there is no contraindication, you will then receive the psychological report by post.
Requirements for cost coverage by the health insurance company:
- The severity of the obesity must be at least grade III (BMI > 40 kg/m2).
- Or: The severity of the obesity is at least grade II (BMI > 35 kg/m2) and there are other serious concomitant illnesses (technical term: “comorbidity”).
- Diabetes mellitus type 2 is given special consideration here.
- No other disease, such as a hormonal disorder, caused the obesity.
- All conservative treatment options, such as nutritional therapy, behavioral therapy or exercise therapy, have so far been unsuccessful.
- The current state of health allows surgical treatment. To find this out, the S3 obesity guideline recommends consultations with various specialists. The results of these consultations are submitted to the health insurance company.
- The psychosocial circumstances should also speak in favor of an operation. Health insurance companies require a psychological report as proof.
The costs for the psychological assessment must be borne privately.
The assessment can also take place online on request. Please feel free to send us an e-mail.
